Quantum Strategy for Mining and Resources Leadership: Optimisation Opportunity and OT Security Risk Arriving Together
Strategic dialogue for mining executives on quantum optimisation for extraction, OT security risk, and critical minerals supply chain integrity.

Anna Beata Kalisz Hedegaard Quantum Security Defence - Rules of engagement
- Chatham House Rule Chatham House Rule. Discussion is on the record; attribution is not. Participants may share what was said but not who said it.
- Format
- Roundtable Flexible between roundtable, structured Q&A or in-person hosted dinner
- Who Should Join
- This conversation is for CEOs, COOs, and CISOs at mining companies, extractive industry operators, and resources sector organisations where OT security and production optimisation sit at the strategic level. It is most relevant to executives at operations with significant processing infrastructure, complex logistics, and exposure to critical minerals supply chains. It is not for operations managers without strategic authority. Participants are expected to hold governance responsibility for both the security risk and the technology opportunity dimensions.
About This Conversation
Why this matters now
Mining and resources operations face quantum on two distinct fronts. OT and SCADA systems that control extraction, processing, and logistics infrastructure have operational lifetimes of 15-25 years and depend on cryptographic protocols that are quantum-vulnerable. The IEC 62443 security standards framework for industrial automation, which covers mining OT environments, has not yet published a dedicated post-quantum guidance document. Simultaneously, quantum optimisation methods have genuine near-term relevance for mine scheduling, fleet routing, and ore blending problems. For operations managing critical minerals supply chains, the strategic dimension adds a third layer: quantum sensing technology has applications to subsurface mineral detection that could materially change the competitive dynamics of exploration. This is not a deferred technology conversation.
Outcomes
What you will leave with
- A frank comparative view from mining peers on where PQC migration is actually progressing across OT, SCADA, and enterprise IT in extractive operations, and which parts of the mining environment are proving hardest to move
- A realistic assessment of quantum optimisation's near-term relevance for mine scheduling, fleet management, ore blending, and logistics coordination: what is demonstrably achievable now versus what remains vendor aspiration
- Clarity on the critical minerals supply chain dimension: how quantum sensing technology is changing exploration capability, and what the competitive and sovereignty implications are for operations in strategic minerals
- Practical framing for the OT downtime constraint: how mining executives are approaching cryptographic upgrades in production environments where a system restart carries significant operational cost
- The governance framing: how to present quantum risk and opportunity to a board that understands resource price risk and operational continuity but has not yet connected either dimension to quantum
