About Egon Astra
Egon Astra is a Research Scientist in information and communication technology with a PhD from Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech). His academic background covers adaptive signal processing for wireless communications, later shifting focus to fiber-optic communications and quantum technologies. During his doctoral studies, he gained international research experience as a visiting PhD student at the Photonics Laboratory of Chalmers University of Technology, collaborating closely with leading European experts.
In recent years, his work has concentrated on quantum key distribution (QKD), precision timing, and secure communications infrastructure within the EuroQCI and EstQCI frameworks. He contributes to Estonia’s national efforts in quantum-secure networks, linking research, standardization, and real-world system integration.
