About Dr Katanya Kuntz, PhD
Dr. Katanya B. Kuntz is co-founder and CEO of Qubo Consulting Corp, and a Research Associate at the Institute for Quantum Computing, University of Waterloo, Canada.
Her main role with IQC is the QEYSSat Science Team Coordinator for Canada’s first quantum satellite mission: Quantum EncrYption and Science Satellite (QEYSSat). Katanya has a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of New South Wales, Australia, 2013, and BSc in Physics from the University of Calgary, 2008.
She is a renowned experimental quantum physicist and frequently does outreach to promote quantum physics, and the QEYSSat mission. Katanya is an excellent public speaker, where she is known for explaining difficult concepts in easy-to-understand language for business and government leaders.
Organisation
The Quantum Encryption and Science Satellite (QEYSSat) mission will demonstrate quantum key distribution (QKD) in space. QKD is a technology that creates virtually unbreakable encryption codes and will provide Canada with secure communications in the age of quantum computing. QEYSSat will bring Canada a step closer to the realization of a truly secure communication infrastructure that will enable national and even global interconnection.

- What is the lecture "Case Study QEYS - Quantum Secure Satellite Communications"?
- This presentation by Dr Katanya Kuntz, PhD at the Quantum Security Defence World Symposium covers key concepts, challenges, and developments in quantum satellite communications, quantum key distribution.
- What is quantum satellite communications?
- Quantum satellite communications uses satellites to distribute entangled photons or quantum keys across long distances, extending secure quantum networks beyond terrestrial fibre range.
- What is quantum key distribution?
- Quantum key distribution uses quantum mechanics to exchange cryptographic keys securely. Any interception disturbs the quantum states and is detectable, providing information-theoretic security.
